Visited 11/11-14/04. There are three camping areas in the park: Buttonwood - Large gravel sites with little shade. Sites have electricity, water, a picnic table and grill. There is also a bathhouse with hot showers and a dump station for sewage. The waterfront sites in this area are #12 - #25; #12 and #13 are by the boat docks; and #14 is on the channel coming into the boat docks. All other waterfront sites are a few hundred feet from the highway, and the noise can be bothersome. The shoreline is rocky coral, but on some sites, you can park so close your bunkend may be over the water. Sandspur - These sites may be the most beautiful in the park but are *very* small and have low clearance. They are located in a very rare habitat called a hardwood hammock. A few sites will accommodate small pop-ups. All of these sites have a picnic table, grill and water, #57 - #72 also have electricity. The waterfront sites in this area are #64 - #72. The shoreline is natural beach, but the views may be obstructed by trees/plants. There are boardwalks to the beach. Bayside - 8 sites, no electricity. These are the bottom of the barrel for BHSP. They may be for tents only, saw no popups here. Lagoon in this area is black, not clear blue like other areas, no swimming allowed here. There is lots to do at BHSP. Swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, and fishing. There is a short trail leading to the old bridge that is an excellent viewing area for the key. The water is clear blue and the beach is nice. No waves here. The park has a marina with boat launch, store, snorkel tours, no fuel. Bathhouses were very clean, and showers have hot water. Buttonwood campsites are huge. Sandspur sites are tiny and very wooded.
