We stayed for one night only passing through the area, but based on the stay we will be back. Excellent site, private, level, and good size. Close to the bath house, which was clean and in good shape. Stayed in A loop (only electric loop), but walked around some of the other loops. Most sites were good. The employees were helpful and friendly. Camped here in a popup.

The whole family went to RG on Mem Day weekend. Camground was full but it did not seem too crowded. Sites were pretty nice. We stayed in Ironwood Loop site 241. Try to get the one across the road from this one. It's REALLY nice. The beach and store area were very well run (a surprize in MD) and the park is patrolled often. The only drawback was the bathhouses. A little to cramped and they did not drain well, at least in I loop. But then again it was a holiday. We will be back for sure!!

If you wanna hit the beach without the boardwalk and the Bay Bridge, Rocky Gap is the way to head. Nestled in the mountains of Western Maryland, this state park hasa lot to do while still maintaining a naturalistic ambiance. The first time we camped here we were surprised to find that our pull-through site could have fit two campers and tow vehicles. It was well-shaded and an easy walk to the bathhouse. After setting up we took a walk down to the main gathering area which includes the store, small laundry, nature center, small game room, snack shack, and playground. There you will also find the lake with a roped off section for swimming and all the sandy fun of the ocean, just no waves. Nearby there is also a boat launch area where you can rent canoes or launch your own. Gasoline motors are not permitted on the lake. We stayed in the Elm loop but I walked around the Ash (electric loop) several times. Some of those sites are not as well shaded, but some are, and all seem to be an ample size. It is a bit further to walk to the beach from the electric loop. On the other side of the Elm Loop is the Fir Loop. It is also nice for dry camping. Drainage behind some of the cabins gave a babbling brook atmosphere to that section. The other loops may be as nice - those are just the three I tried out. As with all the state parks in Maryland, there was no hool-ups. Water is available at pumps dispersed through each loop and electricity is only available on a limited number of sites. You need an access code to enter the camping area and the rangers patrol often. Camp hosts are located in each loop to assist campers. One of the greatest challenges is getting off Route 68 from the east. You are going D-O-W-N the mountain and suddenly have to exit on a rather short ramp and come to a stop - not good on the trailer breaks. But the views and tranquility are worth it. And you can't beat the price!
