Roof hail repair

Hi,

Just bought a Skamper pop-up from a family member. We have been borrowing it for a few years, but it's mine now. :-()

Couple of questions though:

1) It is really nice shape, but the roof has bad hail damage. Any suggestions on how to fix that?

2) I thought about maybe having the roof covered with white Line-x or Rhino Liner so it would last a long time without ever having to worry about leaks. Any thoughts on that?

3) Is there any kind of grease or oil that would be recommended to use in the sliding tracks for the beds? They kinda bind up, and I thought some lithium grease might be good, but what do you all use?

Keep it popped up, and nobody can see the roof anyway :)
I know the hail damage bothers some people...but I bought mine with hail damage, and as long as the roof does not leak, I does not bother me a bit.

Grease could get messy on the sheets, etc. It might help a little bit to take a bar of soap or a candle and rub it on the rails.

If the roof ain't leakin', why fix it? Call all them hail dimples "battle scars". If you just have to repair it, sand it down and fill the holes in with a two part epoxy just made for aluminum (Wally-Mart sells it), or even bondo will fill it in (might have to etch the aluminum). Then you will have to paint it. But remember, if you cover that roof with something like that Rhino liner, that stuff is heavy ... your adding a little weight and that's something the lift system has to deal with; plus the overall GVWR. Like already posted (by Astro), the roof is up high most of the time your camping anyway.

For the bed rails, there's a window silicone grease sold by most hardware stores that will take care of that just dandy. And just a little dab of it will do ya.

As everyone has mentioned, just leave the dimples alone if the roof isn't leaking. If you must fix them, that aluminum epoxy works very well, I think it's made by DURO. Then, paint over your entire roof with automotive primer and paint.

For the rails use silicone spray-on lubricant. Grease will catch dust and dirt.
