calstate360Sal & Joan,

Thanks for putting this rally together! I haven t been to Mr. Muir s paradise for at least 15 years. We are excited to say the least!

I just e-mailed you.

Put us down for 3 nights (arrive Thurs., depart Sun.).

If you need some $ for a deposit see my very dear friend CWB next week at Snug Harbor.

We re going to make it work even if my SIL hasn t had the baby by 8/14 (due date is late July/early Aug.).

Do we need our grey water totes? No problem if so, but it would be nice to know before we arrive and all of us are fighting over the 1 bucket for sale in the Yosemite area, lol.

We are in as long as we don t have to sit through a seminar.

LOL Dave! No seminar, but we are required to give 20% of our annual income to the leaders as well as sit up all night awaiting the arrival of the mother ship. They have special identical Nike tennis shoes for us all to wear also. I think they got them dirt cheap from some place in San Diego a few years back.

6QuigsHey Fellow Halfdomers,

Dumb question- is the road really bad up 120? TurnerToddler is not a good road warrior yet (tummy troubles) so I just want to get an idea what we are up against.

Also, for those coming from the bay area, what is the best route?

You would think that living here my whole life I would know this already, BUT alas this is one of the best places in CA and I ve NEVER been there!

6QuigsRTurner,

Highway 120 is really a smooth ride all the way from manteca to preist grade.Once you hit preist grade you have 2 options (OLD PREIST GRADE or NEW PREIST GRADE)Old preist grade was built many years ago and it has a very narrow road with no turn outs and is almost a straight climb to the top, very steep road.DO NOT TAKE OLDPREIST GRADE ROAD WITH A TRAILER!New preist grade is still a good climb but has alot swithbacks witch make for a gentle climb.Their are alot of turnouts and good size road way with shoulder s.About half way up the hill stop at one of the turnout and take a look at the other road(I can t beleive they still use it but some people are in a hurry)

6QuigsAfter checking the calendar, put us down for the 15th and 16th. Will just be getting back from scouting the apparent NNC invasion of Canada (we will be up in Port Angeles/Victoria first week of August). And knowing the west slope of the Sierra, I think we should actually rename this the " Hotter than Hades Half Dome Hijinks" . I can remember climbing in Yosemite Valley in the summer and burning hands on the rock! But the coolness of the higher elevations will be close or maybe Surfcal will open a branch of Club NNC.[&:]

Actually, how about an everyone who wants to participate can water gun war? We all had a lot of fun with the water balloons at the Gold Country[8D][8D].

Getting there from the bay area is easy. 580 to 5 to 120. Kepp the warning about Priest grade in mind. Visit the hershey factory in Oakdale(better than the tour in Hershey, PA.

abbearOk folks we have some more info.

They are going to put up 2 shade canopies at the campsites.

They are also going to do 2 more at the large group firepit.

If you look at the map it is show as being south of the restrooms

on the left. It is actually West of the restrooms.

Firewood is $7 a bundle so I would suggest bringing it from home.

There is a place past the campground on the way into Yosemite

that has wood for sale but I have no idea how much they charge.

They also said that if anyone wanted to stay Sunday night

they could make arangements at the campground.

Someone asked about late arrivals. You check in at the Ranger Station.

The Ranger s trailer is right there, or if you have FRS we can give you the gate code.

If you have not sent us your deposit please do so ASAP We need to give them a site total soon.

SCCSThere is a lot to do there. Have you checked out the club site for the Half Dome Hyjinx? Sal put a new link that takes you to the Yosemite Lakes Web site. You can click on the different areas of the map and it has a whole list of things to do there and in the area. Also, just going into Yosemite there is a lot to do there also. Touring the sites in Yosemite are too spread out to do it on the bike but you can take them along into the valley and bike around there. The last time we drove around to all the sites it took us 2 days to see almost everything.

We will be there on Thursday so if you want to come in on Thursday also, just let us know. We will need to let the Manager know who is coming and what dates they are staying by next week. The Manager has agreed to let those of you who want to, come in on Thursday and not have to leave until Monday or Tuesday. He just needs to know the dates. So if anyone else wants to change your time there, let us know ASAP. Also, remember to bring swim suits because up by the Family Lodge they have damed up the river and there is an old fashioned swimming hole. The kids usually have a ball. Bring lots of quarters also, there are video games, a pool table, etc. in the Family Lodge.

I can t remember if you ve covered this, but how spacious are the sites and what is the shade situation? We bought one of those ozark trail canopies so we have " manufactured" shade, but I was just wondering anyway.

This area is out in the open so bring your shade canopies.

Calstate361

SCCSThey vary and it doesn t give you the size on the campground map either. I think most of them are made to fit a motorhome with slideouts so it should be plenty big enough for a PU or a Hybred. As stated in the first page the " Superhost sites" are in the sun. They are putting up one of those big white shade canopies over where you guys will be and one over by the large fire ring. We will try to get around site 93 or 94 because we will be there for a week and a half and there is shade in that area. The web site map is not very accurate for that end of the campground. As I remember, the restroom is closer to site 96 and the fire ring is behind that, with the fish cleaning station more behind site 93. The Superhost sites are not as far away from the restroom as it looks. We have also purchased a couple of those " easy up" sun shades and we have had a seperate screen room for quite some time and have not used it. Maybe we should see if Larry gets site 148 so he will be in the middle of the group, since that is where all the food is! Anyway, everyone gets to pick their own site (no assignments) and then goes back and tells the ranger which one they took. So you can pick which ever one you like that isn t already taken.

I m so excited because we are usually by ourselves at this campground, unless our friends from the Bay Area happen to show up (which happened one time, unplanned). It will be so much fun having all of you around to visit with.

Closer to the camping date I will post some attractions and fruit stands people might want to stop at along the way. The Hershey s Chocolate Factory is in Oakdale and you drive right through Oakdale. The Factory does have tours. As a matter of fact, you turn left right there to continue on the highway through town.

I NEED TO GO CAMPING NOW!!!

Had to edit it, I can t stand typos in my typing.

Since I m editing, I ll answer Kevin...I just missed seeing which one of us was going to broadcast the next date. BTW, Margaret wanted the name of the dutch oven cook book we have in the trailer. I ll try to remember to get in there this weekend and get the name and have Sal e-mail it directly to you (I don t get on Sal s computers at home) . I know Sal purchased it from Amazon.com so maybe they still have it.

OK enough for now, I need to get back to work.

griffsmomOK Kevin, I ll count your way. I was including the day of the count (like today) and the day of arrival, which made my count different.

Hear Ye, Hear Ye, I would like to know when all of you are arriving on Thursday because I am planning on purchasing a couple of roasts to cook in the Dutch Ovens. If you all plan to be there by 6:00 p.m. I will put the roasts on to cook at 3:00 so dinner will be almost ready for all of you buy 6:00 p.m. All you would have to do is bring something to go with the roast (post it here so everyone can see). Here is how I make the roast: salt and pepper it and brown all sides then place in the dutch oven with 1-2 cans mushroom soup and 1 pkg. of onion soup mix; close the lid and cook for 3 hours. The meat is so tender it falls apart and it also makes a nice gravy. I usually make mashed potatoes with it, but what ever everyone else brings is great.

Also, do we want/need to have a plan for the pot-luck on Saturday night? Also post here what you plan to bring.

We are not planning any activities because we assume most of you will be going to Yosemite (which is a 2 day event), and if you don t, there are lots of things to do right there at the area or outside the area for a day trip. We can plan as we go.

Can t wait, I sooooo need to go camping!

griffsmomThanks for the replies, Sacto & Towrod, as usual we will just wing it. Sacto, hope you plan to have dinner with us on Thursday, you know the more the merrier! There are a lot of places you can stop and exercise Sactoddler in Oakdale. (That s why it takes us 4 hours because we make a couple of stops along the way.) At the light (in Oakdale) where you turn left to continue on the highway you will look almost straight into a landscaped area. Can t remember if it is actually a park or not, but it is an area where they hold the Chocolate Fair every year. Also, there are a lot of fruit & nut stands all along the highway on the way outside Oakdale. My favorite stop is the one on the corner of the highway and Jack Towne Road. We have stopped there for years because they have a nice selection of olives, all kinds of pickled stuff, chutneys, jams/jelleys, dried fruits and nuts besides the fresh fruit. There are other fruit stands that will have signs out on the road so you can stop at any you want. I know the one that we stop at has a little pick-nick area that you can rest and move around in. Just before you get out of Oakdale on the left side of the road is an A&W/Kentucky Fried Chicken (yes, they are both in the same building) place that Sal likes to stop at to get his A&W Root Beer; since Sacramento doesn t have any A&W stands any more.

I guess I will just go ahead and get 2 roasts and what happens, happens.

The fruit stand is between Manteca and Oakdale. It is on the right hand corner of Jack Tone Rd. and Highway 120. After you get to Oakdale turn left at the main stop light. Four or five blocks down you will see an AM PM and a Burger King on the right, A&W is on the left in the shopping center. This is also the last place to get reasonably priced gas.

6 Quigs & SCCS, sorry you are not going to make it until Friday. If you are planning on going to Yosemite, it might be difficult for you to see it all in one day. Joan faxed the list to the campground today so it is all set to go.

They have the shade covers setup at the campsites & at the group

fire ring. See you all there.

Sal

Hi Sal & Joan,

We re all getting excited about the rally and will start sorting and packing [8D]tomorrow. I noticed you mentioned shade covers being set up -

Does this mean that we don t need to pack our own pop up canopies?

Calstate361
08-18-2003, 01:01 PM
Calstate361Towrod, no, you need to bring what ever shade canopy you have becasue the one that the park is setting up will be on the grassy area. You will still need a canopy for shade on the side of your trailer. They call the area where you all will be " Sun Valley" because there are no trees.

I imagine most of our days will be spent inside YNP but we ll be sure to pack up a canopy for the campsite.

Calstate361The house is done! (crowd goes wild)

Sal and Joan, mark us down for arrival Thursday, leaving Sunday. This gives me a couple days to get all the loose ends in order, and rig the trailer for silent running. Mapquest says it ll be 5 hours and 38 minutes to get there. Let s hope traffic keeps that down to less than 6 hours.[:@]

So, are we gunna string misters between all the pop-ups to keep our group cool? I don t have a stand-alone shade canopy, just our pop-up awning (which needs a replacement awning pole tip-- please see Fix It forum). Guess you guys won t need the Buddy this time, eh?[;)]

Ummmm, dunno what s going on with the foodstuffs.... what er y all agin ta be fixin fer vittles? Are you still planning the DO roast, Joan? What holes can we fill in the menu?

Don t you guys just LOVE last minute drop-ins with lots of questions? (ducking, Jim Redelfs style)

Calstate361

Calstate3613 days for Friday arrivals

2 days for Thursday arrivals

1 day for us!!!

(In Ab Diver style....as she skips down the hallway singing " only one more day, only one more day" ) [:D]

Dave (Ab Diver), so glad you have worked your little fingers to the bone, hope they don t hurt much. As far as food, I didn t get anywhere asking folks what they wanted to do. Received one response to do hot dogs and/or hambergers on both Friday and Saturday night. I agreed, since most everyone will be at Yosemite we will just wing it and who and what ever food shows up at the Pot-Luck is what we get. We may even start a little bit later, like 7:00ish, to give people time to get back and join in.

Yes, I am still doing the 2 roasts in the Dutch Ovens on Thursday night. I don t know what the others are bringing, but if you could do the mashed potatoes that would be great. I was planing on doing the potatoes and some corn on the cob, so that would help. Probably need to make it for about 5-6 families. The roasts give off a nice gravy so I will have that also.

No, I don t think we will need your " Buddy" this time. I think it will be real nice. The news has been saying that it has been in the 80 s in Yosemite this last week and we think they get their reading in Yosemite Valley which is warmer than where we will be. My guess is it will be in the middle to high 70 s so we may not need our misters. We are bringing ours anyway, it is already in the trailer. You said one of your poles is broken for your awning. If you don t get it fixed before you come, we have a canopy that you can borrow.

REMEMBER, you won t need to bring your gray water tank. Bring a small ice chest for your trip into Yosemite because the sodas, etc. are pretty expensive and water fountains are not that easily found. Be prepare to do some hiking because you have to make quite a treck to some of the sites (like Half Dome).

And, last but not least, we have instructed the guard not to let you in unless you have your " Hornet Killing Suit" with you because we want a recreation at the fire ring Friday or Saturday night.

Also, don t forget that there are a lot of fruit stands between Modest and Oakdale so if you need fruit, veggies, nuts, etc., these are the places to stop. My favorite stop is the one at the corner of the Hwy. and Jack Tone Road (it is at a stop light on the right side with plenty of room for the TV and PU to park).

Glad you can make it, we will watch for you. We will try to be in space 94 or somewhere close to that area so when you drive by look for us.

Editing because I forgot to mention that they not only have a large fire ring for us to gather around, but have individual fire rings for each campsite so bring wood. You can purchase a bundle (6-7 pieces of wood) there for about $7.

See you there.

For the record: I never did anything like that with any part of my body. [;)]

Ok, we ll supply the squashed taters. I have an old family recipe that speeds the process up. It involves laying the spuds in a line and getting the tires on the tow rig aligned just so... you ll see. [:o]

As for the Hornet Diving, it s my duty as an instructor to inform you that, due to the campground s location, any dive re-creation would be considered an " altitude" dive and subject to the laws of physics and reduced dive time-tables. In short... any actual seminar *on location* would be too short. You ll just have to get by with my wife s narrative of the event. Sorry, them s the laws of nature, and you can t break those thar rules. [;)]

(hoping she buys that line of BS so I don t have to show how foolish I looked climbing up a ladder on a two-story house in near-total darkness to kill some itty-bitty-bugs, all the while praying the neighbors didn t see me dressed in black and call the cops thinking I was a cat-burglar [:o] )

We ll bring some wood for the communal fire as well.

(deftly changes subject by offering to assist the group effort, thereby turning their attention to other matters... I hope)

Can t wait to see you all again. Drive safe everybody.

Calstate361Just a thought.... what FRS radio freq do you wanna use to announce our arrival and communicate during the rally? How about a K.I.S.S. method: the year as the channel, and the month as the security code. As in " 3-8" for this rally. Or does that sound too simple and probably used by other groups?

No. Bylaws can t be forced, they must come naturally upon general consensus. You try to play it off like you re into the democratic process and then you go and ask for a dictatorship ruling.

Calstate361We got home about 4 this afternoon. The trip home took a little longer than the trip there. I had to make a couple of extra pit stops because of the over indulgence of food and drink on Saturday night. We had a great time checking out Yosemite and speaking of Saturday night, did we get shut down or what? I missed the conversation but I know that as soon as the " ranger" left, Dave/Ab was hosing down the fire and everyone was going back to their trailers.

Nice once again to camp with a small group, you get to spend more time with people.

Dave (AbD), sorry we had to take off without caravaning. Megan fell asleep while Jennifer was getting some drinks at the store so we figured we better get as many miles under our belt while we could. She was a champ on both the ride there and back, considering we hit traffic on the Yolo causeway which delayed us quite a bit.

Let s see, how many NNCers did we see pass by us while we were eating at Quizno s in Oakdale? Champ 521, Ab Diver, Sammyslave, CA-Girl, and the couple with the older Coleman Niagara (I didn t meet them, but then again, I didn t see them the whole weekend. Were they with us?). I also passed TowRod on 99 heading back towards Sacramento. Didn t get to stop at Manteca Trailer Sales on the way home, though, to look at Rockwoods [:(][:D].

When we got out of the minivan at Quiznos I noticed one of my bikes on the roof was leaning over way too much. Turns out one of my so-called " mighty mounts" broke. I was never comfortable with the amount of movement of the bikes on the roof. Now I know why cars were keeping their distance behind me. I need to call Yakima and find out what the he!! is wrong with their equipment. Fortunately, I had enough room to fit the bike in the minivan on top of everything after taking off the front tire. The other bike did fine on the way home.

Took Priest s Grade down in first gear with no problem, pulling aside for others to pass. My transmission held up! And who said DC minivan transmissions were made of dental floss, chewing gum, and elmer s glue?

We go to bed pretty early, so I missed the park rangers telling you all to keep it down. But I did notice it got quiet all of a sudden [:D].

Dave, regarding your late Saturday arrival, Mrs. Sacto caught Mrs. Ab Diver say, " I ll be mad at you later, but right now I m glad you re home." [;)][8D]. Oh man, I bet you re in the doghouse! Worry not, though, because she said I would have been in the doghouse too.

Thanks again, Sal and Joan for wagonmastering this rally. It was a nice weekend to spend our 5th anniversary.

Oh, also wanted to give a big thanks to AbDiver s and SCCS youngest children. They were so great with Megan all weekend and her eyes light up when we ask if she had fun playing with them. It was nice knowing we had little " babysitters" with another set of eyes to look out for her.

Let s see, how many NNCers did we see pass by us while we were eating at Quizno s in Oakdale? Champ 521, Ab Diver, Sammyslave, CA-Girl

We didn t catch you at the Quizno s Sacto, but I could have sworn I saw 6 Quigs hitting a McDonald s drive thru in Oakdale! One of the benefits of the pop-up I guess....I m pretty sure we d cause major damage if we tried that with our Caravan! [8D]

Of course, in our opinion anyway, it was another great NNC rally...just the right size - enough people to always be able to find someone to hang out with, but few enough people to be able to spend time with everyone. As always, there was too much food, too much fun, and not enough time.

Amy has to report this Thursday although she s been getting things ready (like her wardrobe (read $$!)) since late last week.

We ve been priming our 4 year-old for his first day of school (ever) next week with some half-days throughout the summer. I went with him 3 days last week and had a blast doing all the works with him. He is fascinated by the " 100 board" although he s still figuring it out. I m really going to miss this age! Not enough to have another though, lol. He ll probably freak out next week when I take him and leave. Not to mention the lovely screaming child that leaves the poor teacher with. Good thing she knows what a calm kid (usually) he really is.

08-25-2003, 08:23 PM
Red neff BarchettaWell, here we are--- another Rally under our belts, another chapter written into the NNC archives, and another collection of memories my family and I will cherish for the rest of our lives.

First and foremost, THANK YOU to Sal and Joan for organizing this rally, and for letting us join at the last moment. To the other members with which my family shared the weekend, many thanks for making it so enjoyable for us. I actually *DID* " adopt a Quig" for a day, and she was the perfect little angel... any parent would be proud. (in fact, all the parents attending should be proud of all their children. What a great group of kids!)

For those of you who have not been to Yosemite, mark it down on your list of places that absolutely must be visited in this lifetime. The sheer size and scope of the individual features of the Valley defy description, and the incredible power needed to create such a wonder is beyond belief. Taken together as a whole, a visit to Yosemite leaves you awe-stricken at it s beauty, and humbled by your own insignificance.

Friday, most of us headed for Yosemite Valley, singly or in groups of a couple families. We convoyed with Ca-girl in the morning, but bumped into Sacto and Towrod during lunch. Towrod joined our group for the afternoon while the Sactos continued their two-wheeled journey to parts less traveled. The Ca-girl s and the Ab Diver s hiked up to Bridalveil Falls, among other activities and viewing pleasures. A personal highlight for me was when Towrod, Ca-girl-DH and myself, along with selected children, made our own attempt at climbing El Capitan. We hiked up to the bottom of the sheer cliff, found a spot where the vertical face of the mountain actually touches flat dirt, and started our assent. We made it all of 7 feet up. [;)] However, a more serious team was starting their climb about 150 feet away from us, and we were able to see for ourselves what a *real* assent looks like at it s beginning. Cool! Then, with stiff necks from looking straight up at the almost never-ending scenery visible from the valley floor, we ended our day back at camp with a traditional NNC Potluck Feast and Brew-Ha-Ha (and not necessarily in that order).

Saturday, myself, DD #1, my adopted Quig-for-a-day DD, and Ca-girl DH and his DD, all piled into the " 21-Six" and convoyed with the Towrod s to The Big Trees at Mariposa Grove. Jumped onto the shuttle for the trip up the hill, and walked the second part down. What can be said about these trees that hasn t been said already? All I can add is that, accustomed as I am to seeing the Coastal Redwoods and their versions of the words *Big Trees*, the Sierra Redwoods are absolutely stunning in their size, height, and age. Then we drove up to Glacier Point for a " View From The Top" . Looking across the Valley at Half Dome from Glacier Point, while seeing the valley floor a couple thousand feet below your feet, is a jaw-dropping, soul-inspiring sight that you will NEVER forget.

Other members of the Rally decided to stay at camp for Saturday, and spent the day kicking back, visiting, and swimming. The Glacier Point group got back a little bit later than expected, none the worse for wear, but hungry as heck. Dinner-- what was left of it-- was delicious. (hey, half of a *huge* feast is *still* a feast!)

Sunday was take-down day, and since the Sammyslave s had wowed us the previous morning with Eggs Benedict for breakfast, they evidentially decided that one killer breakfast wasn t good enough for a single weekend. So they made bacon and blueberry pancakes for everyone. Larry and Rita, I dip my Ab-cooking hat to you!

Sunday was take-down and departure day for everyone, with the exception of Sal and Joan, who will stay for several more days. It felt weird leaving them " alone" at the campground, but I know that even as I was working my tail off today, they were relaxing in that very enjoyable location called Yosemite Lakes.

One thing we all noticed at this rally was our site location relative to each other: we were back-to-back in the loop instead of facing each other across a road, as is usually the case. This gave the rally a much more intimate feel, as if we were all hanging out together in our own back yards instead of visiting from across the street. This particular pattern of site choice may be a good thing to try for in future rallies. Talk was tossed around for a repeat rally next year, to which I heartily agree.

Red neff BarchettaDamn Dave! Well written and said!

You all had a much better Yosemite experience than we did. Although we did enjoy ourselves.

I would have loved to watch the ascent team as they prepared and departed.

I think Sal & Joan are having the last laugh then since they are still " there" and we are all " here" today.

p.s. we did miss you this weekend.

There was definetly a shortage of boys for our eldest boy to play with, so he had to do with hanging out with the girls.[&:]

Red neff BarchettaI was wondering what the climb up priests grade was:

Old Priests grade = 1575 ft rise/10560 (2 miles) run = 15% grade!

Priests grade (hwy-120) = 1575 ft rise/26400 (5 miles) run = 6% grade. Not bad, but slow and winding.

Hey Neff,

To answer your question on where the CALSTATES are they are stil camping until the end of the week.I think thats what Joan said?

Hello everyone, we made it back Fri. around 7pm due to the Labor Day traffic.

First we would like to thank everyone who was able to attend.

Second Yosemite Lakes is one boring campground when all your friends leave.

It s one thing to go camping by yourselves and be prepared for it, and completely

different when you are excited because of another rally, and all of a sudden

all of your FRIENDS leave for home. (insert big tear here)

Sammyslave fish and game came by on Tues. and stocked the lake and river.

They were catching 3 pound rainbows up by the lake at the bridge.

6Quigs on Wed. night we were serenaded by 3 violinists playing Irish music.

We are also glad to hear that you enjoyed the campground. For some reason

a lot of people have a preconcieved notion that they will be in a RV parking lot.

I know of only one that is and it is in Las Vegas. I doubt many people go there to camp. All the ones we have been to are like Yosemite.

That said the planing for Halfdome Hijinx 2 are under way.

Due to the fact that the date was changed and caused a conflict with the staggered

school starting dates, people expressed an interest in returning next July.

So if there is enough interest we will start another thred for next year and Joan will start planning it. Yup Neff you may have a second chance!

Once again thanks to all of you, and thank you for your photos.

I took the digi cam and the video cam and only took one pic.[:@]

Red neff BarchettaHi all, glad everyone made it home safely. Sal was correct when he stated it sure was boring after you all left. I even had to talk to him!!![;)].

I have already discussed another rally for next year with the Yosemite Lakes Superhost Manager (Walt) and he said it is not too early to schedule one for next year. He also said we could do it for 5 days or more if we wish, so with that in mind how about these dates:

July 29, 30, 31, Aug. 1, and 2

OR

August 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9.

I would prefer these dates because of all the contract work I have to do at work at the end of the Fiscal year. But we can also go with: July 22, 23, 24, 25, and 26th. I believe the price would stay at $24 per night, but will have to confirm when I make the reservatons.

Please let me know what dates you all would prefer and I will schedule it for next year for Half Dome Hijinx II. Neff, maybe you can make this one and I ll try not to change the dates on you this time. [:)]

Also, for future reference, if anyone would like to reserve a site at the Public Area of Yesemite Lakes the phone number is: 800-533-1001 or (209) 962-0121. For those of you who were there, this is the area that was on the hill on the right side of the road before you turned into the Ranger station. They are also " full" hook-ups and have full use of the facilities like the club house, shuffle board, miniture golf, etc. The Superhost (Walt) also said that he didn t expect the price to go up next year so it will stay at $35 per night. AND, they do not bother you about membership either.

So, let me know what weekend you all prefer and I ll get to scheduling the rally for next year.

Hello Joan,

I just got a call today announcing my husbands 20 year class reunion is the weekend of July 30 - Aug 1 so that weekend will be out for us now. The weekend of August 5 - 9 will work though[:)]

Boy, does it make me start feeling old to talk about a 20 year reunion [8D]

Calstate361Joan,

at this point, next summer is so far away, any date is fine with us,

though anything just might come up between now and the rally.

Do as Scott said in " circling the Wagon" , and pick a date that suits you,

and those of us that can make it will show up.

Red neff BarchettaKevin (6Quigs), I agree with you, I was just trying to get a feel for when the families with kids would be able to come since that was the reason most of the people couldn t come this time. Since we don t have any school aged kids I don t have any idea when most of the kids start school. So far it looks like the weekend of August 5-9 will work for those that have responded to my note. I guess I will make the executive decision and go ahead and book the 25 sites they will allow us for that weekend. Then that way Jeff (Red-Neff) can plan way ahead of time and won t get mad at us for changing the date. [;)]

Michelle (pcmom), I don t want to hear you complain about being old, if we were having a class reunion, mine would be number 34! [: (] NOW THAT s OLD!

Joan

Red neff BarchettaGood job on the Executive Decision, Joan. Picking dates a year in advance is, for me, impractical. I can t even choose next year s vacation weeks until next March, and even then the weeks are only available on a seniority basis.

Campground Maps

As some of you know Brian tried to set this up last year and for

various reasons it did not work out.

Since we are members of Thousand Trails, Joan has been working

with the Superhost Coordinator to try again this year.

As some people like to come a day early she set it up for four days.

Those who prefer to go Fri. to Sun. can with no problems. It was just easier

to do it this way. Payment will be made at the campground, They are holding

my credit card hostage in lieu of a deposit.

Since it is so early in the season and the campground is closed they

have no idea of site numbers yet and probably won t until the week before.

The designated Superhost area is circled on the map and we will be there.

This area is out in the open so bring your shade canopies.

If you come from Groveland on 120 west you will hit Priest Grade.

It s winding and steep so make sure your brakes and TV are in good order.

When you see the Exxon station on the right, this is the road into the campground.

I would suggest filling up in Oakedale. The campground fuel was over $2.00

a gallon last May before the price increases.

There was a lot of interest in Yosemite last year. That said we were only able to

obtain a maximum of 20 sites. They will not give us any more than that.

So the first 20 people that e-mail me requesting a site will get one.

When they are gone, their gone. Sorry but it s out of our control and we thought this

would be the fairest way for all that may be interested.
